Designer Knitwear is the love of many a fashion designer for the creativity they can bring into the structure of the finished garment. For this to be created in the softness of Cashmere, is an added bonus.

Pringle of Scotland introduced it’s new range in Milan this week … but instead of the old fashioned but long lasting cashmere classic garments, Clare Waight Keller, knitwear designer, had other garments in mind.

Was it the change in the weather which inspired the collection of outerwear knitwear garments?

Is this the future of cashmere?

We can only hope so because of the potential of future business growth in this area of design. This is definitely a fashion trend which could have a very long way to go.

The classically tailored suits were topped with knife-pleated kilts (a trend this season) that looked smart and decidedly wearable. But it was the variations and innovations in knitwear construction that truly showed how committed the brand is to both fine craftsmanship and modernity.

You can read more about this event here …

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/01/19/fashion/19iht-rcompile.html

Look at the following video to see more of what is happening to cashmere knitwear. (The video is not a professional video but look closely to see what is possible.) Galashields is a fabulous place to go to, in order to find manufacturers of your designs.

Is this something which could inspire you to become a knitwear designer and start your own clothes business?

Twenty years in business are being celebrated in Galashiels with a fashion show brightened up with colourful wigs.

Designer knitwear was very big back in the mid 1980′s at the time of Charlie’s Angels and Dallas. Ladies knitwear in all shapes, colours and knitting textiles were in every magazine and store around th world.

The late Princess Diana wore sweaters adorned with various motifs, including the famous red sweater with the sheep motifs, which became fashion knitwear and in turn let to many up and coming fashion designers taking the plunge and diving into the designer knitwear sector of the fashion industry.

Designer knitwear comes in the form of hand framed knitting or knitting needles. It is the imagination of the fashion designer which results in the uniqueness of the finished garment.

This was my forte and the reason why I have now set up the online fashion course for anyone who has a passion for fashion, whether in the fabric textile design or designer knitwear range.
